deer deterrent clanger tip

I've experimented with several items to see which one functions as the best clanging material for the noise end of the rotisserie motor deer deterrent.

This stainless steel camping cup is at the top of the list these days for its compact size and unique sound signature.

I used 12 gauge wire to suspend the cup from above. 14 gauge wire was too flimsy and sometimes got shifted during windy days. You could mount it onto a solid piece of wood, but then you wouldn't get that groovy vibration that occurs after each collision.

deer deterrent dent

The primary hitting spot provides a striking point which produces the first noise signature and helps the golf ball build up a bit of momentum before swinging towards the secondary clanger.

I've discovered through some trial and error that a slight half moon shape of a curve is the way to go for trapping the golf ball in the same spot each time which is important for the secondary clanging accuracy.

It's also important to allow for enough height in the primary piece of tin so the golf ball will have enough surface area to ride for a few seconds.

L.E.D. deer deterrent diy low budget

The new L.E.D. deer deterrent is holding up well under some heavy winter weather, but I've decided to shift directions in this department and try a different approach.

A friend pointed out that deer are color blind and may not be seeing much of anything in that moving pattern of light projected onto the barn wall.

I still think there may be a deer deterrent use for these night lights by simulating movement in the dark somehow. Clearly I need to do some more tinkering with this concept. I'll continue to listen to my friends that hunt deer for any further behavior tips I can adapt to this low tech solution that can prevent your garden or flowers from becoming a daily deer snack.

do it yourself Bamboo rocking fountain made from pvc

This attractive fountain is called a "shishi odoshi", known in Japan as a deer scarer and to sushi restaurants around the world as a bamboo rocking fountain.

I would be concerned about how the noise signature and interval stay constant depending on the water pressure. It's also got the obvious problem of freezing in the winter.

It would be easy to fabricate these from PVC pipe. This application might work if 3 or 4 of these units were hooked up so that the noise was staggered and each one created a slightly different clang. A possible solution for someone with no electricity and a nearby source of running water that only needs protection during the growing season.
